Mobile-for n.v. was established in June 2006 by the European on and off-street parking leader APCOA, the Estonian private limited company NOW!Innovations and Stéphane Jacobs. Initial goal was to manage a mobile on-street parking service in the city of Antwerp in close collaboration with Proximus. As the interest in mobile parking from other Belgian cities has exceeded all expectations, Mobile-for is set to become the preferred national mobile parking operator.
In July 2008, Belgacom acquired Mobile-for, to fit in its strategy to expand its offer and to invest in the growing mobile payments market. The innovative nature of Mobile-for solutions enables Belgacom to create more value, improve the service quality, offer greater convenience, and generate better operating efficiency for the users.
Two years later, more than 35% of the parking places were paid via SMS in Antwerp. Mobile-for also introduced SMS parking in Hasselt, Tienen, Lokeren, Wetteren, Turnhout, Diest, Bruges, Schaerbeek, Beveren, Kortrijk and Louvain. Mobile-for remains an independent entity of the Belgacom Group. There will be no impact on Belgacom's relationship with its existing customers and partners. . In addition, Mobile-for is in discussion with several other public service authorities to introduce other pioneering mobile payment, ticketing and permit solutions.
